Industrial engineering students awarded Foundry Educational Foundation scholarships

9/23/2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Thirteen industrial engineering students at Penn State have been selected to receive scholarships from the Foundry Educational Foundation (FEF) for the 2015-16 academic year.

The mission of the FEF is to “strengthen the metal casting industry by supporting unique partnerships among students, educators and industry, to help today’s students become tomorrow’s leaders.” The foundation issues more than $30,000 annually in special scholarships and grants to undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in metal casting careers.

The Penn State recipients of the scholarships are: Joshua Binder, Nikki Casasanto, Chetan Chimate, Devin Cole, Michael DeLancey, Nicholas DeLong, Dika Handayani (graduate student), Samuel Kresky, Justin Lewis, Thomas Misiak, Tyler Sullivan, Paul Wright and Gregory Zuber.

“The FEF not only provides scholarships for our students, but also helps to provide mentoring, internships and full-time jobs in Pennsylvania and across the country,” said Robert Voigt, professor of industrial engineering and the faculty adviser for the Penn State student chapter of the American Foundry Society (AFS). “The foundation’s support for our student scholars, and for our metal casting initiatives at Penn State, has been a key part of our program’s success for more than 50 years.”

The students will be presented with their awards at the Metal Casting Banquet, hosted by the AFS student chapter, on Oct. 1 at the Atherton Hotel.
