Our Curricula
Students who come to Penn State to study industrial engineering, whether as undergraduates or graduate students, have a world of resources at their fingertips.
Our curricula provide a broad-based education in human factors and ergonomics; manufacturing; operations research; and production, supply chain, and service engineering. We accomplish this through a base of mathematics, physical, and engineering sciences along with hands-on laboratory and industrial experiences that help students prepare for their careers. The program builds a strong foundation for the development of a professionally competent and versatile industrial engineer (IE).
Our graduates are trained to function in a traditional manufacturing environment as well as in a much broader global context. IEs from Penn State have established successful careers in financial services, communications, information technology, transportation, health care, consulting, and academia.
We have a number of professional organizations and societies for IEs that allow for students to explore industrial engineering outside the classroom. Students have access to speakers, career fairs, plant tours, conferences, competitions, professional contacts, leadership opportunities, and social events.
Our program boasts over 7,500 graduates, many of whom are now world-class leaders in their field and can be found in top positions at Accenture, Bank of America, Caterpillar, Cummins Power, Disney, ExxonMobil, Herren Associates, The Hershey Company, Honda, Intel, John Deere, Kimberly-Clark, Liberty Mutual Insurance, Lockheed Martin, Michelin, and Walmart.
We are Innovators. We are Makers. We are Excellence in Engineering. We are Penn State IME.
