Human Performance Assessment and Modeling Lab

The Human Performance, Assessment and Modeling (HPAM) Lab, located in 240 Leonhard Building, focuses on the understanding of operator constraints, abilities, and goals in the context of dynamic task environments and the design of systems to facilitate effective and efficient man-machine interactions.

Research conducted within the HPAM Lab forms a mutually supporting triad with human-in-the-loop simulations informing the development of inductive learning models and testing hypotheses grounded in cognitive science.

Under the direction of Ling Rothrock, professor of industrial engineering, the lab develops and maintains versions of the Aegis Simulation Platform, which is used by multiple government and academic institutions to conduct studies of human cognition in a complex and dynamic environment. 

Research tools used in the HPAM Lab include discrete event simulations, evolutionary computation methods, and opportunistic reasoning techniques.
