UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Three members of the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering faculty have been promoted to the rank of associate professor, as announced by the College of Engineering.
Necdet Serhat Aybat, Scarlett Miller and Conrad Tucker all came to Penn State in 2011 as assistant professors. Miller and Tucker also hold appointments in the Penn State School of Engineering Design, Technology and Professional Programs.
Aybat joined the Marcus department shortly after receiving his doctoral degree from Columbia University. His research interests are first-order methods for large-scale convex optimization, compressive sensing, matrix rank minimization, robust and stable principle component analysis and distributed algorithms.
Miller joined the Penn State faculty after completing her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. She currently oversees the Bridging Research in Innovation, Technology and Engineering Lab. Miller’s research has three main thrusts: ergonomic product design, design cognition and human-computer interaction.
Tucker came to Penn State after earning his doctorate at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign. He is the director of the Design Analysis Technology Advancement Laboratory in Leonhard Building. Tucker’s interests are in formalizing system design processes under the paradigm of knowledge discovery, optimization, data mining and informatics.
