4/20/2018

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Senior Yechen Wang has been selected as the student marshal for the industrial engineering baccalaureate program at the College of Engineering spring commencement ceremony on May 4. Wang will receive bachelor’s degrees in both industrial engineering and mathematics, a minor in Six Sigma and a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.

He is leaving Penn State with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

Wang has selected Elena Joshi, assistant teaching professor and undergraduate program coordinator within the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, to be his faculty escort at the ceremony.

Student marshals for the College of Engineering are selected based on their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.

“I am so honored to have been selected as the student marshal for the industrial engineering program. This means that all of my efforts throughout my undergraduate studies are being recognized by my professors and classmates,” Wang said. “I will keep this honor through the rest of my life and continue to bring value to this wonderful and amazing community.”

A native of Beijing, Wang is an active member of the Chinese Undergraduate Student Association and the Chinese Students and Scholars Association at Penn State.

While at Penn State, Wang has been the recipient the President’s Freshman Award and the Evan Pugh Scholar Senior Award. He has been a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society since 2016.

Wang participated and received first place in the National Organization for Business and Engineering’s Industry 4.0 Case Competition in November 2017. He was also a team leader for the Penn State Data Analytics Challenge this spring.

He has held several internship positions during his time at Penn State. In the summer of 2015, he worked at Beijing Transtrue Technology Inc. as a technical assistant intern. The following summer, he spent his time at CAXA Technology Company in Beijing, where he worked as an industrial researcher intern. Most recently, he spent the summer of 2017 working as an assistant engineer intern at Harbor Electronics.

Following graduation, Wang will continue his education at Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, where he will pursue a master’s degree in business analytics.
